Initial Situation <\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Swiss Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (FOCBS) needed to replace its stationary border control system. The system is used at the Schengen external border, the internal border and domestically. It is operated via a federal workplace computer (PC). FOCBS performs more than 6 million checks per year using this system. The system had to be integrated with the EU’s new Entry\/Exit System (EES) as well as with many information and search databases. The introduction of the system was coordinated with the other Schengen member states. The system also includes self-service kiosk at the airports for EES-relevant travelers to pre-register their data, thus accelerating the border control at the service counters.<\/p>\n

We successfully acquired, implemented and introduced the system. The go-live with EES at the airports supported by FOCBS was seamless. These airports are among the leading airports in Europe in terms of EES border controls.<\/p>\n

  • Set up IT operations with the supplier and the Federal Office of Information Technology, Systems and Telecommunication (FOITT) – including operating concept, operations manual, service agreement.<\/li>\n
  • Ensured compliance with IT security and data protection requirements, including the assessment if the protection needs (SchubAn), the IT security compliance (base and extended protection), the data protection compliance (data processing handbook) and the technical emergency handbook.<\/li>\n
  • Defined and implemented dashboards, and reports, including statistical data modeling and integration with the FOCBS central statistic system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
